EmBuddy AI is a companion app for international students, developed by Üsküdar University as a Scientific Research Project (BAP). This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it is kept and how you can control it. It is written to be read, not skimmed; if anything is unclear, write to us at the address at the end.
What we collect

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos or health data from your phone. The campus map opens your device's map app only when you ask for directions. There is no advertising and no analytics tracking across other apps or websites.
How the AI companion works
When you send a message to EmBuddy AI, the message and the recent conversation are sent to a large language model provider (Google Gemini, or Anthropic Claude if the university switches providers) to generate the reply, together with relevant excerpts from the university's own guides. The provider processes the text to produce the answer; the university's agreement with the provider does not allow it to use your messages for advertising. The reply and your message are stored on the university's servers so that the conversation can continue.
The companion is not a therapist and does not make medical decisions. If a message contains signs of a crisis, the app immediately shows emergency contacts (112 and the university counselling unit, PDRAM), the conversation is marked for review, and the university's psychiatrist and counselling team are notified by e-mail so a person can reach out. Reviewers see the conversation inside the university's admin panel; this is the only situation in which staff read AI conversations.
Where your data is stored
All data is stored on Üsküdar University servers located in Türkiye. Encrypted backups are kept on the same infrastructure for up to 30 days. Three services outside the university process limited data to deliver specific features: Google (Gemini) for AI replies, Google Firebase for Android notifications and Apple for iOS notifications. Notification services receive only a device token and the notification text, never your conversations.
Who can see what
- You: everything about your own account, in the app.
- Your peer mentor: only the messages you exchange with them and your first name.
- Counselling staff: conversations marked for a safety review, and the e-mail address needed to contact you.
- Content editors: aggregate usage numbers (for example how many conversations happened this week), not individual accounts.
- No one else. Data is not sold, rented or shared for marketing.
Your rights (KVKK)
Under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK, Law No. 6698) and, where it applies, the GDPR, you can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to processing, and withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: edit your profile, delete any AI conversation, or delete your whole account from Profile → Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, check-ins, conversations, saved items and device tokens within 30 days, after which only anonymous research statistics remain.
Research results from the project are published only in aggregate; no individual student can be identified.
Children
The app is intended for university students aged 18 and over.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will tell you at your next sign-in and the date at the top of this page will be updated.

EmBuddy AI, Üsküdar Üniversitesi tarafından Bilimsel Araştırma Projesi (BAP) kapsamında geliştirilen, uluslararası öğrencilere yönelik bir yoldaş uygulamasıdır. Bu politika uygulamanın neyi, neden topladığını, nerede sakladığını ve bunları nasıl kontrol edebileceğinizi anlatır. Anlaşılmayan bir nokta olursa sayfanın sonundaki adrese yazın.

Telefonunuzdan hassas konum, kişiler, fotoğraflar veya sağlık verisi toplamıyoruz. Kampüs haritası yalnızca yol tarifi istediğinizde cihazınızın harita uygulamasını açar. Reklam yoktur; başka uygulama ve sitelerde izleme yapılmaz.
Yapay zekâ yoldaşı nasıl çalışır
EmBuddy AI'ye bir mesaj gönderdiğinizde mesajınız ve son konuşma, yanıt üretilmesi için üniversitenin rehberlerinden ilgili alıntılarla birlikte bir büyük dil modeli sağlayıcısına (Google Gemini; üniversite sağlayıcı değiştirirse Anthropic Claude) iletilir. Sağlayıcı metni yalnızca yanıtı üretmek için işler; üniversitenin sağlayıcıyla sözleşmesi mesajlarınızın reklam amacıyla kullanılmasına izin vermez. Yanıt ve mesajınız, sohbetin sürebilmesi için üniversite sunucularında saklanır.
Yoldaş bir terapist değildir ve tıbbi karar vermez. Bir mesajda kriz belirtisi varsa uygulama acil numaraları (112 ve üniversitenin danışmanlık birimi PDRAM) hemen gösterir, sohbet inceleme için işaretlenir ve üniversitenin psikiyatristi ile danışmanlık ekibi e-postayla bilgilendirilir; böylece bir insan size ulaşabilir. İnceleyenler sohbeti üniversitenin yönetim panelinde görür; personelin yapay zekâ sohbetlerini okuduğu tek durum budur.
Verileriniz nerede saklanır
Tüm veriler Türkiye'de bulunan Üsküdar Üniversitesi sunucularında saklanır. Şifreli yedekler aynı altyapıda en fazla 30 gün tutulur. Belirli özellikler için üniversite dışındaki üç hizmet sınırlı veri işler: yapay zekâ yanıtları için Google (Gemini), Android bildirimleri için Google Firebase, iOS bildirimleri için Apple. Bildirim hizmetleri yalnızca cihaz token'ını ve bildirim metnini alır; sohbetlerinizi asla almaz.
Kim neyi görebilir
- Siz: hesabınıza dair her şeyi, uygulama içinde.
- Akran mentörünüz: yalnızca onunla yazıştığınız mesajları ve adınızı.
- Danışmanlık personeli: güvenlik incelemesi için işaretlenen sohbetleri ve size ulaşmak için gereken e-posta adresini.
- İçerik editörleri: bireysel hesapları değil, toplu kullanım sayılarını (örneğin bu hafta kaç sohbet yapıldığı).
- Başka kimse. Veriler satılmaz, kiralanmaz, pazarlama için paylaşılmaz.
Haklarınız (KVKK)
6698 sayılı Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu (KVKK) ve uygulanabildiği ölçüde GDPR kapsamında hakkınızda tutulan verileri öğrenme, düzeltilmesini veya silinmesini isteme, işlemeye itiraz etme ve rızanızı geri çekme hakkına sahipsiniz. Bunların çoğunu uygulamada kendiniz yapabilirsiniz: profilinizi düzenleyin, herhangi bir yapay zekâ sohbetini silin ya da Profil → Ayarlar'dan hesabınızın tamamını silin. Hesap silme; profil, kayıtlar, sohbetler, kaydedilenler ve cihaz token'larını 30 gün içinde kaldırır; geriye yalnızca anonim araştırma istatistikleri kalır.
Projenin araştırma sonuçları yalnızca toplu olarak yayımlanır; hiçbir öğrenci bireysel olarak tanımlanamaz.
Çocuklar
Uygulama 18 yaş ve üzeri üniversite öğrencileri içindir.
Değişiklikler
Bu politika önemli bir biçimde değişirse uygulama bir sonraki girişinizde size bildirir ve bu sayfanın üstündeki tarih güncellenir.
